What is the power of being employed in your community? For Matt Porter, one of Good Day Café’s most enthusiastic employees, having a job is a great new opportunity. “Working at Good Day Cafe is awesome! It means a lot to me,” said Matt, who began working when the café opened in August of 2018.
Good Day Café, a program of Strawberry Fields, is an inclusive and transformational coffee shop. Not only does Good Day Café serve delicious food and drinks, but it also provides meaningful job opportunities for many of our friends and neighbors with disabilities. Matt continued, “My favorite part is how social I get to be. I get to talk to a lot of people. I also like that I do a lot of everything, from cleaning tables to taking orders. It’s a lot of fun.”
Good Day Café was supported by a Centre Inspires grant from Centre Foundation. Other opportunities for adults and children with disabilities have been funded through grants awarded to ACRES Project, Easterseals, and Skills.
